FAQ
Off-piste skiing is not generally prohibited, but certain areas may be subject to restrictions or bans, particularly for safety reasons. Unlike open slopes, off-piste areas are neither marked, controlled, nor secured. It is essential to respect signage, current decrees, and the instructions of mountain professionals.
Off-piste skiing exposes you to natural hazards: avalanches, falls, unmarked obstacles, or rapid changes in weather conditions. These dangers exist even near marked slopes and ski lifts. Good skiing skills are not enough to avoid them.
Before each outing, check the weather and the Avalanche Risk Estimation Bulletin (BERA). Each participant must have an avalanche beacon, a shovel, and a probe, and know how to use them. Also, consult mountain professionals and be prepared to cancel your plans if conditions are unfavorable.
No. Off-piste skiing alone is strongly discouraged, even for experienced skiers. Courchevel Tourisme recommends hiring a mountain guide or a qualified instructor to provide guidance suited to the conditions and your level. The professionals listed on this page can help organize your outing. This guidance helps limit risks but does not eliminate them.
