2016: Courchevel is celebrating its 70th birthday!

70 years ago; a crazy gamble…

Building a ski resort on Alpine pasture land, where everything needs to be done totally from scratch… Was it a gamble, a technical challenge? In all honesty, it was probably a bit of both! The first ski resort built from nothing rose from the ground in 1946. Thanks to this, Courchevel became a model for second-generation resorts created from scratch, and today remains a benchmark in terms of mountain layout and organisation.

In June 1946, building work began: the access road, the resort’s 1st hotel, the first 2 drag lifts… In December 1946, the resort’s first guests discovered the 3 ski runs!

Find out more about the resort’s history.

70 years later…

Courchevel has always been a pioneer. In everything it does, a quest for excellence and attention to detail are constant watchwords: from its perfectly groomed runs, to its villages where no stone is left unturned in a bid to offer you the most magical of stays, not forgetting its architecture that seamlessly blends traditional style with contemporary design, as well as its ultra modern infrastructure and warm welcome...

70 years on, the resort doesn’t look a day older and still has many surprises in store for you!
