    ARCHITECTURE, KEY TO COURCHEVEL
    09/11/2013

    ARCHITECTURE, KEY TO COURCHEVEL

For a resort, Courchevel has unique architectural heritage.
It is the only resort in France to have 6 buildings listed as "Monuments Historiques" among the most impressive in 20th century mountain architecture.
The Courchevel school (1949 - 1955) revolutionised the art of mountain construction! Architects Laurent Chappis, Denys Pradelle and Jean-Marc Legrand joined forces to found the Atelier d’Architecture de Courchevel. Together they built a tenth of all Courchevel’s constructions at the time. Laurent Chappis said: “Courchevel should be a current holiday resort and not a copy of a traditional country village.”

DATES THE 6 LISTED BUILDINGS WERE BUILT
    - Chalet Joliot Curie: 1949
    - Chalet Lang: 1950
    - Chalet Le Petit Navire: 1951
    - Chapelle Notre Dame de l’Assomption: 1953
    - Grenier or Mazot La Goupille: 1953
    - Eglise de Saint-Bon: 17th century

    Emile Allais has passed away…
    10/19/2012

    Emile Allais has passed away…

The great man is no longer with us.
Emile Allais and Courchevel had an exciting journey together

At the age of 42, Emile Allais flung himself into his Savoie adventure: ?One day I got a letter saying: ?We have a proposition for you: Come to the Courchevel slopes?. The ski industry was growing in Savoie and Courchevel had ambition. The board of directors wanted me on board and they offered me a contract. We had to start pretty much from scratch.? Great friendships were made here: Maurice Michaud, Laurent Chappis, Jean Cattelin, Gilles de la Rocque and Laurent Boix-Vives to name but a few. Job profiles were developed here: ski patrol staff, snow groomer etc. Emile Allais? first task as technical and sports director at Courchevel was to design a green run. The famous Bellecôte stunned the world. How did a champion such as Allais design a piste for novice skiers? ?My goal wasn?t to make skiers travel to the top of the slope, there were mechanical ski lifts, or create a piste for champions. No. Most importantly, I wanted skiers to have a safe journey from the top of the mountain down to the resort. It should always be a enjoyable experience.? Emile Allais will always be dear to ski monitors, patrol staff, snow groomers, contractors, investors and, of course, skiers.

In the words of Emile Allais and his favourite ending to his intelligent sentences: ?Et voilà!?

Thank you for everything Mr Allais.

    Mademoiselle Courchevel
    09/27/2012

    Mademoiselle Courchevel

The success of the Pop Art exhibition last winter led to the idea of providing a platform for one of the artists present in the Courchevel Universe. Without a second thought, David Cintract launched himself into the project, letting his imagination and inspiration reveal itself as he enjoys saying, like a young chick ready to take flight over the slopes and, I hope, fly with its own wings...
A glamorous and slightly nonchalant young woman but one who is full of self-confidence and many surprises. This is Mademoiselle Courchevel. We will reveal her today as an introducion to the journey that will lead up to this winter where you will be able to discover her, larger than life, in the heart of the resort, on the Croisette...

Let us allow the artist to have the last word: I try to ensure that pleasure is at the heart of everything. Pleasure, the very essence of Courchevel.
